Academy Grades 8-12

The Academy meets monthly on Sunday evenings from 5:30-8:00PM.
Each evening is made up of four parts:

Limud (Lifelong Learning)

Topics are determined by teen interest, and are taught by Temple Israel educators and clergy, or visiting scholars. Past topics have included: Cantor Patti Linsky speaking about overcoming addiction, the Anti-Defamation League leading a program about understanding and responding to anti-Semitism, Sheldon Low teaching about civil rights in music, and our clergy teaching about Judaism's take on contemporary issues, such as fake news and the #MeToo movement.

Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World)

Teens have the opportunity to work with the staff to plan and lead a social justice project for their peers. Past topics have included: hunger and homelessness, the environment, women's rights, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, and gun violence provention.

Areyvut (Community Mindedness)

Teens work in groups, typically by grade, to complete team building challenges and activities. Activities have various goals, including fostering community by getting to know each other, and working on teamwork through increased communication, patience, open-mindedness, and creativity. All activities include time for debriefing and reflection.

Kehillah Kedoshah (Sacred Community)

The entire group of teens comes together to eat dinner, allowing us to foster community as one large Academy.
