Madrichim Application 2024-2025

As a participant in the Madrichim (Hebrew for "guides") program, you are committing to a professional role in our community. We expect that you will consistently attend, arrive on time, stay until the end of the session, and participate fully while you are here. We understand that one-off absences may happen, and it is your responsibility to contact the Lifelong Learning office AND your lead teacher (if applicable) as soon as possible to notify us.

If you know you will have to consistently arrive late or miss a chunk of sessions (due to sports, school, clubs, activities, etc.) email education@tinyc.org to let us know! We will work with you to find a solution that best fits your schedule and the needs of our community.

Participating in the Madrichim program is a wonderful opportunity to work on leadership skills, earn volunteer hours, and give back to your Temple Israel community. Madrichim are always our first calls when looking for teens to volunteer or staff other programs, so participating in the program can open the door to many other opportunities.

Typically, a participant is placed in a classroom and asked to assist a lead teacher with various tasks - from running errands, to chaperoning a student to the restroom, to setting/clearing up an activity to leading a part of a day's lesson. From time to time, participants may also be asked to assist with other administrative tasks in the Lifelong Learning office or used as a "runner" in case of any unexpected needs which may arise on a given day.

Classroom madrichim are welcome to submit their preferences for the age/grade of students with whom they'd like to work, and/or a specific teacher with whom they feel comfortable working. Like any request, a student's first choice will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. We also may elect to change your assignment in the middle of year; working with various leadership styles is an important life skill that we want to work with you to develop.
